As most brass instrumentalists know, our instruments accumulate build-up and grime over time. The usual solution to this problem is a professional chemical flush. However, many musicians do not realize that a chemical flush can damage an instrument by stripping off microscopic layers of lacquer and metal. This is particularly harmful to older instruments that may have undergone many cleanings. As the owner of a Kruspe horn with crooks nearly a century old, I am especially aware of this problem. Accordingly, I always hand wash my instrument and use specially designed "snakes" to clean every slide. I am now offering this service for all brass instruments.
Another issue commonly ignored by brass players is build-up on the slides themselves that cannot be removed by simple washing. Over time, discolorations may form from the inadvertent mixing of slide grease and valve oil. This build-up is not only unsightly but may also impede the free movement of the slide. For an additional fee, I will also remove all tarnish and build-up from the slides of any brass instrument.
